The Power of Wellness Escapes

Cinnie Segsworth

We sat down with industry expert Cinnie Segsworth for an inspiring conversation about the rising demand for wellness escapes. From medical diagnostics in Spain to stress relief retreats in Arizona, Cinnie shares insights on how travelers are redefining self-care, one destination at a time.

How would you describe the evolving landscape of wellness travel?

It's become incredibly diverse. Wellness isn't a one-size-fits-all anymore. Whether you're after diagnostics, detox, or deep rest, there’s a place tailored for that. SHA Wellness in Spain, for example, is very medically focused—think blood diagnostics, plasma treatments, and personalized nutrition. It’s not about manicures; it’s about understanding your body at a cellular level.

How does a place like SHA Wellness differ from traditional wellness resorts?

SHA is science-backed. It's not about hiking in the mountains or yoga on a beach—though those exist elsewhere. It's about high-level diagnostics. In Spain, they can legally offer treatments like plasma therapy, which Mexico cannot yet. There’s also cosmetic services, cryotherapy, and even sleep analysis. It’s luxury wellness with a medical edge.

What would you say are the categories of wellness travelers?

I'd classify them into three groups: those seeking health and diagnostics, those chasing weight loss and detox, and those who want pampering and peace. The first group might visit Clinique La Prairie in Switzerland for a week-long rejuvenation with a full medical team. The second might go to SHA to reset their metabolism. The third might prefer Canyon Ranch or Miraval for massages, gourmet healthy food, and flexibility.

How should travel advisors guide first-time wellness travelers?

Always start with: “What’s your purpose?” Are they looking to lose weight? De-stress? Be spoiled? That answer shapes everything. Then factor in if they prefer structure or freedom in their schedule. SHA gives you an agenda; Miraval lets you build your own.

Have you noticed any recent shifts in wellness travel demand?

Absolutely. It’s no longer a trend; it’s a staple. People want to invest in their health. Diagnostics and medical-grade wellness are gaining popularity. There’s also a strong demand for quality gyms and spa options even in traditional resorts. But true wellness escapes—mother-daughter trips, solo detoxes, even bachelorette wellness retreats—are rising.

Any transformative client stories you can share?

While many clients feel fantastic and say, “I wish I could’ve stayed another week,” the real transformation is internal. They come back refreshed, positive, and motivated. It may not always lead to a new lifestyle, but it gives them a much-needed reset. Everyone deserves that moment to prioritize their well-being.
